Editorial standards

Attribution. Every story says where it came from and links to it. If one outlet is the only source, we say that.

Quotes. We never invent one. We do not attribute words to a named person unless that person said them on the record or in a public meeting.

Kosher certification and eruv status. Reported from a source or left out. Never generated, never inferred. Where a business tells us its own certification we publish it as reported and say so.

Zmanim and candle lighting. Calculated, not written. Times come from a zmanim source keyed to Cedarhurst and are never composed by hand or by a model.

Public records about named local businesses. Health inspection results and licence filings are public, and publishing them about a neighbour’s business is still an editorial decision rather than a feed to pipe through. A person reviews each one before it appears.

Machine assistance. Feed watching, duplicate spotting and first drafts are automated. A person reads everything before it publishes, and the rules on this page apply either way. We are telling you because you should know, not because anyone made us.

Corrections. We will get things wrong. See corrections for how that gets fixed.

Advertising. Sponsored content is labeled sponsored, in words. Advertisers get no say in coverage and no advance look at it. Directory position can be bought; directory inclusion is free and coverage is not for sale.
