The 5T Brief is a local news brief for the Five Towns. The site publishes as news breaks and one email goes out on Thursday morning.
News here travels by WhatsApp broadcast and word of mouth: fast, but unsearchable and gone in a day. The papers that cover the area are weekly print operations whose websites came second. This is the other thing.
What we cover. Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, Hewlett and Inwood, plus Far Rockaway, North Woodmere, Atlantic Beach and West Hempstead when news crosses over. Village boards, the school districts, roads, the Far Rockaway branch, and Central Avenue.
How it is written. We report on the news rather than reprinting it. When a story comes from another outlet we name that outlet and link to it. We do not reproduce anyone else’s wording or photography.
How it is paid for. Local advertising and newsletter sponsorships. Sponsored items are labeled in words. Paying for a featured directory listing buys position, never coverage. Nobody can buy a story or kill one.
