Fischer targets overdevelopment, security and schools in 20th Assembly District bid
The Democratic candidate, a 24-year-old Cedarhurst resident, says residents need better representation in Albany.
Meir Fischer, the Democratic candidate for the State Assembly's 20th District, is campaigning on three main issues: overdevelopment in the Five Towns, security at houses of worship, and support for both public and private schools, according to the Nassau Herald. Fischer, 24, is a lifelong Cedarhurst resident and works as a private chef. He said his age would bring a younger voice to Albany.
On development, Fischer said residents are struggling to find decent housing and that new projects should include options for seniors, so that new housing does not mainly bring younger families into an already crowded area. He did not give specific projects or proposals in the interview. He also said security concerns should cover mosques, churches and other houses of worship, not only synagogues, and that security should not be confused with policing.
Fischer, who attended private school, said the state should support public and private education without one coming at the other's expense. He praised the public schools in Long Beach, where residents have raised concerns about their district's future. He said residents should judge him on his willingness to work on issues rather than on his age, religion or party.
