Librarian builds community through outreach
Laurie Adler of Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library connects patrons with inclusive programs and services.
Laurie Adler, a Woodmere resident, has served as the first outreach librarian at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library for three years. She previously worked in children's and adult services. Adler coordinates community partnerships, including the Great Give Back art supply drive, an annual food drive with Island Harvest, and Memory Café for adults with dementia.
Library Director Michelle Young, who created the outreach role in 2023, praised Adler's compassion and dedication. Adler said the library has evolved from microfilm to digital platforms, but remains a central community hub. She recalled a letter from a patron who wrote, "You make me feel included."
