The village said the storm brought about 3.5 inches of rain and gusts up to 50 mph from September 25 to 28.
The Village of Lawrence thanked residents and emergency workers after the nor'easter that hit the area from September 25 through 28. The village said the storm brought about 3.5 inches of rainfall, sustained winds near 35 mph, gusts up to 50 mph, and higher tides.
Before the storm, the village said it cleared catch basins, tested emergency communications, and coordinated with local, county, and emergency-service partners. Mayor Samuel (Shlomo) Nahmias thanked residents for their cooperation and everyone who worked to prepare and protect the community. He also thanked Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Town of Hempstead Supervisor John Ferretti, Village Administrator Gerry Castro, OEM Liaison Dr. Marc Sicklick, village public works, the Nassau County Police Department, the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, Hatzalah, and other emergency personnel.
The village gave special thanks to HAFTR for making shelter arrangements available if needed, and to PSEG Long Island for coordination. Administrator Gerry Castro said the storm was what the village prepared for, adding that officials did not want to hype or underplay the situation. He said they prepared based on the information available and worked closely with partners. The village noted that surrounding areas faced a greater impact but said its own response was measured.
