Hewlett-Woodmere schools mark 25th anniversary of 9/11
District holds remembrance activities across all buildings.
Hewlett-Woodmere Public Schools observed the 25th anniversary of September 11 under the theme "Hewlett-Woodmere REMEMBERS," the district said.
On September 10, ninth and tenth graders at Hewlett High School heard guest speakers describe their personal experiences of the attacks. Elementary schools held Patriot Day observances on September 11, with HES at 8:45 a.m. and OES at 9:30 a.m. Secondary students took part in classroom discussions and commemorative activities.
The Hewlett High School varsity football team replaced its regular practice with a Memorial Stair Climb, running the stadium bleachers to represent the 110 floors of the World Trade Center towers. The tribute honored the 343 FDNY firefighters and other first responders killed that day.
