Achiezer hosts pre-Yomim Noraim security meeting with NYPD and NCPD
Law enforcement from both sides of the city-county border met with rabbanim and community leaders Thursday morning.
Achiezer convened senior law enforcement officials, rabbanim and community leaders Thursday morning for a pre-Yomim Noraim security meeting covering the Five Towns and the Rockaways. The gathering focused on communication and coordination between the NYPD and the Nassau County Police Department, since the Jewish community operates across the New York City-Nassau County border. 5 Towns Central reported the details.
NYPD Assistant Commissioner of Community Affairs Fred Kreizman attended with senior officers from Patrol Borough Queens South and the 100th and 101st Precincts. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch had planned to be there but could not attend because of an urgent matter. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder led the county delegation, joined by Fourth Precinct Commanding Officer Matt Schiller and members of the department's POP team. RL Hatzalah, RNSP units, rabbanim and other community organizations also took part.
Ryder gave an intelligence update, with details kept private because of the sensitive information, and reviewed security technology and measures used throughout the Five Towns. Kreizman outlined NYPD preparations for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, including added attention to shuls, yeshivos and other places expected to draw crowds. Officers from the 100th and 101st Precincts discussed patrols, deployment plans and security concerns affecting the Rockaways. Nassau officials addressed preparations for the Five Towns, where more than 80 shuls and thousands of pedestrians create challenges during the Yomim Tovim.
Rav Mordechai Kamenetzky, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva of South Shore, opened the meeting by stressing the importance of strong community-law enforcement relationships. Rabbonim and community representatives then raised specific concerns directly with police leadership.
