Lawrence and Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick announce Route 878 improvements

State grant, repaving, ADA ramps and drainage included in project from Burnside Avenue to Atlantic Beach Bridge.

The Village of Lawrence and State Senator Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick have announced infrastructure improvements along NY-878, 5 Towns Central reported. The work stretches from Burnside Avenue toward the Atlantic Beach Bridge, with construction underway since early June and completion expected by October.

The project includes resetting catch basins, replacing sidewalk ramps and median crossings to meet ADA standards, and eventual milling and repaving of the road surface. Trees and shrubs will also be planted along the median. The village said the work aims to improve safety, accessibility, and local aesthetics.

A $150,000 state grant helped fund earlier improvements along the route, according to the announcement. Senator Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick said she is proud state dollars were brought to the area, and Mayor Samuel Nahmias thanked her for the contribution.

What we could not confirm

The source did not clarify whether the $150,000 grant applies to the current work or an earlier phase, and it did not give a total cost for the project.
