Cedarhurst sidewalk sale draws shoppers despite rain
The village's four-day sale on Cedarhurst Avenue ran July 29 through Aug. 2, with more than 80 stores offering discounts and activities.
The Cedarhurst Business Improvement District hosted its annual four-day sidewalk sale on Cedarhurst Avenue from July 29 through Aug. 2, drawing shoppers from the Five Towns, New Jersey and Connecticut despite periods of rain. More than 80 stores placed racks of clothing, accessories and discounted merchandise along the sidewalks, and the event brought customers to local restaurants as well, the Nassau Herald reported.
Store owners said the sale builds community. Mayer, whose wife owns Baho, helped out and called the area “gorgeous.” Lieba Rotkin, manager of The Gallery, described the sale as “a good chaos.” The Gallery opened in Cedarhurst about three and a half years ago and also has stores in New Jersey and Israel. Rotkin said customers come from nearby towns, Brooklyn and even Monsey.
Sparkle by Sima owner Sima K., who has run her jewelry boutique for 10 years, offered doorbuster specials and discounts. She said she enjoys meeting new and repeat customers each year. “Fashion changes, clothing doesn’t always fit the same, but jewelry is for everyone,” she said. The village has more than 280 storefronts, and the sale has become a signature summer event.
