Lawrence begins repaving and beautification project on Nassau Expressway
State funding covers repavement, ADA ramps, landscaping and trees along Route 878.
Work is underway on a repaving and beautification project along State Route 878 in the Village of Lawrence, from Burnside Avenue toward the Atlantic Beach Bridge. The village received $150,000 in state funding from Sen. Patricia Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick to cover the improvements. Construction began in early June and is expected to finish by October, according to the Nassau Herald.
The project includes repaving the road, bringing entrance ramps into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, adding landscaping and planting trees. Lawrence Mayor Samuel Nahmias, Village Administrator Gerry Castro and Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick toured the roadway on July 23 to announce the work. Canzoneri-Fitzpatrick said the funding addresses long-standing concerns about the corridor and highlighted cooperation between levels of government.
Nahmias described the project as a continuation of prior streetscape work, including improvements on Rock Hall Road that added repaving, lighting and a sidewalk funded through a county grant. Castro said the new work connects with recently completed county work on Rock Hall and Broadway.
