Hindi's Libraries moves into its own space in Hewlett

Hindi's Libraries has left its borrowed spaces in Cedarhurst for a headquarters of its own at 15 Ives Road in Hewlett, according to the Nassau Herald. The nonprofit, started in late 2018 after the death of longtime Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway teacher Hindi Krinsky, has distributed nearly 750,000 books to children and families around the world.

Co-founder Leslie Gang said the group needed room to collect and store books and to host volunteers, community groups and events, something the previous space could not offer. The new location is only a few blocks from the old one but gives the organization more space to grow, she said.

Gang said Hindi's Libraries remains entirely volunteer run with no paid staff, and that every dollar raised goes toward shipping and storing books. The group, co-founded with Krinsky's husband, Dovid Kanarfogel, has partnered with more than 1,500 organizations worldwide. With many of its high school volunteers occupied by finals and graduation this time of year, the group has leaned more on local Girl Scout troops and community groups, and currently runs 10 book drives across New York and other states.

Gang said the organization plans a grand opening celebration later this summer, once the school year ends and volunteers have more free time.
