Hewlett-Woodmere board updates on Ogden principal search, summer construction
Superintendent says a decision on the elementary school's next principal could come within a week.
The Hewlett-Woodmere Board of Education used its annual reorganization meeting on July 8 to update residents on the search for a new principal at Ogden Elementary School and on construction projects underway across the district this summer, according to the Nassau Herald. Superintendent Dina Anzalone said the search has entered its final stages, with a committee of parents, staff and students interviewing candidates. "Hopefully, we're going to have a decision next week," she said.
Anzalone also described a summer leadership retreat for district administrators, who were set to visit the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Navy SEAL Museum to study decision-making under pressure. Ella Findling, the newly elected Hewlett High School Student Council president, gave the board's first student report of the year, recapping the Class of 2026 graduation and outlining fall plans including early homecoming preparations and student fundraisers.
Trustee Francois Tenenbaum reviewed capital projects continuing through the summer. Woodmere Middle School is getting a new synthetic turf field, a shade shelter and a storage building, with officials also looking at changes to drop-off and pickup areas. Franklin Early Childhood Center is undergoing roof replacement and other upgrades, and the district is installing energy management systems districtwide. Hewlett High School is getting a new storage facility tied to its recent athletic facility work. The board also approved routine policy updates and contracts for mandated summer special education services. The next regular board meeting is set for Aug. 12.
