Lawrence mayor and two trustees run unopposed under new four-year terms
Samuel Nahmias, Aaron Felder and Steve Gottesman face no opposition in the village's first election under a term structure that doubles terms to four years and caps officials at two consecutive terms.
The Village of Lawrence will hold its election on June 16 under a new term structure that extends elected terms from two years to four years while capping officials to two consecutive terms, according to the Nassau Herald. Mayor Samuel Nahmias and Trustees Aaron Felder and Steve Gottesman are all seeking re-election and are running unopposed. The change to village law was approved unanimously by the Board of Trustees earlier this year.
Nahmias, first elected mayor in 2024, said the longer terms give officials time to finish projects and give village employees a sense of stability. He pointed to plans for security cameras throughout the village, a command center linked to Nassau County police, more road repaving and coordination with Liberty Water and National Grid to time water main replacement with paving work. He also cited ongoing work at the Lawrence Yacht and Country Club, including expanded event space and lodging, and a FEMA funded dredging project.
Felder, a trustee for one term who now serves as deputy mayor and has lived in Lawrence for nearly 50 years, said he is running again because several initiatives remain unfinished. He named public safety, beautification and infrastructure as his focus if re-elected, and credited his late father, former Mayor C. Simon Felder, as his example for public service.
Gottesman, a mortgage finance professional who has lived in the village since 1995, said his first two years as trustee have centered on quality of life issues such as overgrown vegetation, street lighting, sanitation and public works. He said the board has worked to improve village operations and finances.
